They’re Made For Walkin’ 187/365

My daughter got new boots for her birthday. Needless to say she loves them and the two have been inseparable.

Snowflakes in August 186/365

No, not really but that’s what the patterns of the little petals reminded me of.

Move In Day 185/365

Yesterday we took our oldest daughter back to college. We spent the day driving, lugging possessions, decorating, and organizing. It was both physically and emotionally draining. I’m using a picture my younger daughter took because I didn’t have an opportunity to shoot anything.

For Nicole – We love you more than words can say. Have a wonderful year! Continue to be the amazing young lady, student, sister, and daughter that you are.

Giraffe 184/365

This is a souvenir I brought back from Uganda a few years ago that found a home on my desk. Lit with the desk lamp.

Gazebo 182/365

If our town had a town square this might be it. It’s within one of several parks. It’s the place where they hold free concerts, where politicians give speeches and awards, and the teenagers hang out.

Ghost Rider 181/365

Did you see that? I was setting on a bench outside a neighborhood ice cream shoppe enjoying a refreshing treat watching the traffic go by when the idea hit me. Take a long exposure shot and see if the cars are captured. Shot with a canon 24-70 f/2.8L at 24mm - f/22 - 1/5sec. I’ll have to try this again closer to sunset and with a ND filter or two.

Wild Flowers 180/365

At first glance it appeared to be nothing but overgrown and unsightly clump of weeds. But closer examination, a different angel, and compressing some high grass with a dead branch to open up the background allowed me to get this shot.

The Meadow 179/365

On the approach to the Great South Bay. I had to climb on a fence to get this vantage point.

Hurricane Bill 178/365

A category II storm 300 miles east of Long Island was supposed to pound the shoreline with 12-16 ft waves. I went to Lido Beach West around 6:30pm to discover the waves were rolling in around 6ft and most people stating they were significantly bigger earlier in the day. This was the best of the bunch and you can click here to see a 7 shot slideshow of this ride.

Its What’s For Dinner 177/365

Yes, I’m using the beef industry’s marketing slogan. I hope they don’t sue me.

I Expected More 176/365

Light box and florescent bulbs? These have been around for 75 years. I was expecting fiber optic, LED, something else. This is hanging over the door of a local business.

B.E.S. 174/365

Black Eyed Susan’s are blooming all over town so I thought I’d snap a few.

Grill Work 173/365

I photographed 20+ different grills from various types of cars, trucks, & SUV’s. There’s a certain level of irony that the Benz ended up with a starburst reflection on its emblem. The starburst was the deciding factor.

Shady Park Bench 172/365

Today was a scorcher and finding an unoccupied shady spot was a rare commodity. Shot with the new EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM at f/2.8, 1/640 sec, 70mm, ISO 200.

Home Grown 171/365

Freshly picked from the backyard garden. Speedlight high and to the left, defused and bounced off a foamboard.

Mini Falls 170/365

Considering I took this at 2pm with a blazing sun high in the sky and no NF filter it came out better than I expected but not exactly as I’d hoped. I was going for that soft silky effect. Shot with Canon 50D and a EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM at f/32, 3/10 sec, 70mm, ISO 200.

2.5 GPM or 9.46 LPM 169/365

Today’s excuse is lack of time. This is my showerhead but I laid the flash on the floor. Vignette and white matte added with iPhoto.

Wet Web 168/365

The bushes in front of my home after a quick shower. I like the way the raindrops bead up on the spider’s web. As a bonus it gave me an idea for a future shot.

Liatris 165/365

At least that’s what I believe it is. I like the simplicity and bokeh.

Lilly Pad 164/365

Out on the bike again. This time to a preserve near the ocean. The place was full of ducks, geese, swans and other waterfowl.

Spotted… US Politician 163/365

I volunteered to act as the event photographer for a corporate function featuring Newt Gingrich (click HERE for Wikipedia article). I took about 150 shots and I was fairly satisfied with the individual “photo op” shots. However, the shots of him on stage giving his presentation came out too warm because the white balance was off. Likely caused by all the additional stage lighting. Wisely I shot everything in RAW and was able to correct it in post processing. I still have so much to learn…. Here’s my “photo op” shot which was obviously taken by someone else but I’m positing it anyway in recognition of my efforts.

Colorful Corner 161/365

The owner of this property has expended considerable effort to landscape it. It’s a corner property and in my neighborhood that translates into large front and sides yards. It’s tastefully arranged with many varieties and colors. I shot this for maximum DOF and a lower viewing prospective.

In a darken room I used a laser pointer to write my daughters name on the wall. F/22 at 4 seconds.

The Steeple 157/365

One of the many local churches. Notice the lightning rod atop the cross.
