I was out and about on my bike this afternoon when I rolled upon this Lamborghini. I’m not a car buff by any stretch of the imagination but this likely cost as much as some on the homes I passed today.
I find myself inspired by the work of others. This is a commitment to myself to improve my photographic skills by posting a photograph a day. 2009 was my 365 year but I find this the perfect motivator to pick up my camera on a daily basis. I continue my quest of making better photographs and focus my efforts on off camera flash.

Courtney
This was one of those tricky lighting situations and I’m happy with those results even though I flubbed the focus. She was getting ready for a soccer game and looking tough with the eye black.
Fill lighting with camera mounted 580EX II set for ETTL and flash compensation at ev-1.33.

The Winning Pitcher 172/365
I scored 2 field level box seats and my daughter & I enjoyed watching the Yankees defeat their division rivals Devil Rays by a score of 8-3. Phil Hughes pitched a good game giving up 4 hits and 2 runs going 6-2/3 innings. Its amazing how 150 games of baseball played over 6 months mean nothing and the entire season depends on who wins & loses in the last 2 weeks of September.

Shedding Tool 171/365
I had a roll of violet craft paper that I was itching to use but couldn’t figure out the best way. The dogs shedding tool was laying around so I put them both to use.
The shot – f/8 ~ 1/100 ~ iso 100 ~ key light camera right at 1/8 power. Second speedlight camera left at 1/64 power.

Slacker 170/365
I haven’t taken many photos this week but there was 1 exceptional day. I had a meeting on the 46th floor of the NY Times building (8th Ave. & 40th St) and I took advantage of the view.
Looking over the rooftops of midtown. That’s the Hudson River with New Jersey in the background. Looking northwest you have the George Washington Bridge.
The ramps are the exit to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. If you follow the longest one you can see the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel.
Looking north up 8th Ave. The patch of green is Central Park.
Looking Northwest at the George Washington Bridge.
Close-up of the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel.
That flat spot with the trains lined up is the LIRR Eastside Yard. Last year there was lots of commotion because there was a proposal to build a football stadium for the NY Jets.
A cruise ship in port.

Sunday Morning Bagels 169/365
The puppies got to split a treat this morning. Sandy inhaled hers but Madison took the slow savory approach.
I used a combination of natural light coming in through the patio doors and a speedlight off to the left at 1/16 power to provide fill.

9/11 We Remember
Communities throughout the region held remembrance ceremonies to honor the 2,752 victims who perished at the World Trade Center. What about your community?

Gazebo 167/365
I took this about 30 minutes after sunset while fighting off the mosquitoes. I couldn’t decide which one I liked more. The only difference between the two is the shutter speed.
I set the speedlight on the bench of the gazebo at full power and fired it via radio trigger. I think I'll try this again with multiple lights.

Lucky 165/365
I have no idea what this is or why it caught my eye. I walked pasted it and simply stopped to grab a quick shot and kept going without giving it another though. At the time I had the camera in my hand, the flash attached and everything turned on. It was just one of those things… I like the dark boken and shallow DOF.

The Puppies 163/365
I needed something easy tonight and its probably been a few weeks since I posted the dogs. They’re now 7 and 9 months old.

Silhouette 162/365
The family went to Jones Beach hoping to catch one of those spectacular post storm sunsets, but it turned out to be a bust. Atop many of the street lamps are beach themed silhouettes. Thanks go to my daughter for her great eye by being the first to spot and capture them.

Hurricane Earl 161/365
Luckily it turned out to be nothing. We did get 10-15 foot waves so I went to Lido Beach West to photograph the surfers. Here are a few sets if you’re interested. I suggest playing them as a slideshow.
