Leopard 64/365

I finally picked up Mac OS X 10.5, a.k.a. Leopard, and iLife09. The upgrade is underway

Puzzled 63/365

Why didn’t I have more time and motivation to produce something better than this?

White Stork 62/365

In children’s folklore this is what’s responsible for delivering babies and creating families. This was captured while on a safari in the African savanna.

Rustic Simplicity 61/365

I’m not sure why this appeals to me but it does. Maybe it’s the simple elegance of the wagon wheel, the peeling paint around the numbers, or the near dead lawn it rests upon. All that’s missing are the tumble weeds.

This Old Shed 60/365

I walked past this dilapidated old shed along with a rusted out trailer and I thought it would make a great B&W photo. So I went home to get my camera. Since it was on fenced in property I felt compelled to respect the boundary and not move the recycle bin out of the frame.

Weeping Willow 59/365

Another busy day with no time…so here’s a snapshot of my favorite tree. 12mm - f/8 - 1/250.

Kisses 57/365

No motivation tonight, just a snapshot of the remnants of the Easter candy…..

Oh Atlanta - 56/365

Traveling on business and staying at a very busy airport hotel with a great view, if you like airplanes. I brought my camera but I wish I had a tripod. My room had a balcony so I made due with room furniture. This is a 6 sec exposure and I deliberately timed it to capture simultaneous takeoff and landing.

Berry Sweet - 55/365

I really like the soft uniform lighting of this one. It was sweet, juicy, and absolutely delicious.

Bamboo Forrest in the Suburbs?

Is it me or is this out of place? I know bamboo is a hearty plant and that it can grow just about anywhere, but I never expected to find it growing curbside in the NY suburbs.

Blooming Trees

I dug my bike out of the garage today and meandered around town taking pictures of the trees in bloom. Too bad I forgot the polarizing filter…. It was tough finalizing today’s selection. The well was the deciding factor.

Carpenter Bee

This lil guy has been hanging around our hibiscus tree for the past 3 days. More than likely he’s boring holes in it too. I spent hours trying to get a semi-decent picture. It’s too small for auto focus, his flight patterns are too sporadic, and he won’t venture too close to me no matter how still I sit. This mediocre shot had my blue pool cover as a background and I used Picnik for the B&W conversion.

Red Sky by Night

I got lucky tonight, arrving home just in time to catch the sunset. Too bad I wasn’t at the beach…

Fanning out

No time or inspiration tonight. Desperate attempt to create something but delivered nothing. Dining room chair blacked out with foamboard and strobe left.

The Symbol of America

The American Bald Eagle, our national emblem. Photographing birds in flight is difficult especially with a long lens. This one was part of an exhibition at Yankee Stadium last week. These are 2 of the dozen good ones I was lucky enough to snatch.

More Whine

After my previously failed attempt to light this and produce something I liked, I came up with an idea. It’s clearly a work in progress because I don’t like this all that much either. It is progress, however small. I put the strobe in a box, covered it with a piece of glass and then placed a black t-shirt over it with the wine bottle in the neck opening. I added a washcloth or two as well. I had to shop the background black which was not part of the original plan, and I used picknik to create the vignette. I’d like to see the lighting more uniform and the color closer to the vignette.

Multicolored Eggs

The obligatory snapshot of the dyed eggs…. We do this year after year but no one in our home likes hard boiled eggs.

Inspiration

I got the idea and inspiration from TimD's March 25th post. I even mimicked his setup to a large degree. I used 2 strobes along with a red and a light blue gel.

Spring has sprung

Somewhere behind tonight’s clouds and rain is a full moon but I couldn’t see it so I couldn’t shoot it. Besides, I was far too busy today to pickup the camera. This is from a few days ago when I was lucky enough to see the forsythia blooming along with the cherry and apple blossom trees.

Moonshine

We had a big bright moon tonight so I went out with my big 500 and my everyday lens. I favored the shots which included the trees over those of the moon alone. Focusing on the trees meant giving up the details of the moon. I suspect these would have come out better if I added a touch of negative exposure compensation. Maybe I’ll have another opportunity tomorrow.

Motion in Focus

Taken while speeding down the highway at 70mph, at a 90 degree angle and straight out the passenger window, stopped at F/22, shutter 1/30. Are you seeing an out of focus shot or seeing motion? You decide

The Kissing Arches

Legend has it that in the days of old when male and female dormitories where segregated on opposite sides of the campus lovers would meet, greet, and say goodnight at these arches because the boys were not allowed on the south side of campus. The blooming cherry blossoms on the south side are eye catching.

Twisted Ol' Tree

I was walking around the Univ of Del campus with my camera taking in the arrival of Spring when I came across this twisted ol’ tree. As you make a complete circle around the base of the tree you can’t help but wonder how or why it is the way it is. I can only speculate…

Bad Ad!!!

Need I say anything more?

Even if I had the misfortunate of being afflicted with this ailment I’d pick a different doctor on principle. The “o” in Proctology is an ass. I took it through the windshield of the car while speeding down the highway on the approach to JFK Airport in NYC. Not my best piece of work but its been gnawing at me all day.

Take Me Out To The Ball Game

I had way too many pictures to choose from tonight. I choose this because I'm surprised it came out as well as it did. This is the big HD video screen/score board at the new stadium. It cost ~$300,000,000 for all the electronics in centerfield. They had some operational challenges in that they blew-up the PA system in the 4th inning. Food deliveries were an absolute disaster. We ordered 2 sandwiches, fries, and drinks at the bottom of the first. An hour later, in the 5th inning it arrived without fries. Complained to 1/2 a dozen people and we were still waiting for our fries when the game ended with the Yanks dominating the Cubs 10-1.

Got Tickets?

Four field level box tickets to the new Yankee Stadium thanks to the generosity of a co-worker. Game 2 at the new stadium is an exhibition game against the Chicago Cubs. All I have to say is LET’S GO YANKEES!

The American Falls at night with a 15sec exposure. A plane traversing the night sky created the streak.

The Forbidden City

Not long ago I was fortunate enough to visit Beijing China and I came home with over a thousand pictures but this is one of my favorite photographs taken just before dusk.
