Waterdrops

This is a combination of previous work to come up with something new.  I set a hatpin in a small portable vise.  Using an eyedropper I placed the drop of water on the end.  I used different gift bags as a background.  Once again I used iMovie but this time I went with a lower resolution (medium) hoping for a better web experience, but it didn't make a difference. They are hard to see in this window and full screen is terrible.   The song, Wasted Time (Reprise) by The Eagles from Hotel California was randomly selected based upon length.   The Flickr slideshow can be found here.

Tripod mounted Canon 50D with a 50mm 1.4 prime lens and 36mm extension tube.  Off camera flash at 1/64 power radio triggered at 45 °

  1. Some amazing results. Thanks for explaining how you set up the photos. I'll have to give it a try.

  4. Lance - flash was camera left, more or less even with the edge of the lens, set at 45 degrees. I had a piece of white foam board camera right. The flash was aimed at the gift bag but the foam board was there to offset the color cast from the gift bag and to bounce it back onto the water drop. Flash was set at low power, 1/64. Camera in manual mode f/11 for extra DOF needed when you use extension tubes and shutter at 1/30 sec.
