The Great South Bay

In the background is the Robert Moses Causeway that connects Long Island to one of the south shore barrier islands, Fire Island.  Vehicular traffic is restricted to a small section on the western tip of the island which services the Fire Island Coast Guard Station and Robert Moses State Park.   The rest of Fire Island consists of a National Seashore and a small seasonal community.  Property owners are permitted to own electric golf carts as a means of transportation. Access is limited to ferry service or a boat if you happen to own one.
